I bought a VM22 for my Bantam, but found that it's mounting bolt holes are offset, up above the centre-line of the mounting flange, so the 'outlet' of the carb body doesn't align with the inlet port on the back of the barrel centrally. I have yet to find a solution, perhaps fabricate an adapter? but thought it worth flagging up for anyone else planning to go down this route. Every VM22 I can find on Ebay seems to have the same off-set mounting.
Great video, really enjoyed watching it. There's something 'magic' about disused railway lines.

It’s just the brake pads making that noise when I brake, probably needs some more anti-squeal grease adding between the pad and piston

Hi, did this help with hot starting - the main issue I have on my D7?
Electronic ignition from Electrexworld solved all starting issues. Fitted it on both my bantams and they always started first kick hot or cold.
@@jagsnyorks hi, the system that my bike came fitted with is Italian, ‘idm’ is written on the coil. Does that sound like a lesser product?
@@thestrictlynoparking No experience of that make of ignition sorry. You could try replacing the sparkplug with iridium type for better starting.
@@jagsnyorks hi, I am using the iridium plug. I need to check the timing. Also, one bit of advise was to increase the oil ratio up to that in the manual! Still to test this out. What ratio are you using? I had been using 33:1
@@thestrictlynoparking I no longer have my D7 but pretty sure I was running it at the original oil ratio. I’d check the timing on your bike, though to be honest I remember the electrex kit produced such a decent spark the bike started even with the timing way out.

Hi I'm interested in getting a Mutt, looks like you've had it a while so I'm guessing it's been reliable? Sounds awesome!
Just installed vm22 to my d14 and it started straight away. I only bought it to find out if my amal is cousing troubles. For the first time bike sounds healthy and it rides ok up and down the street. Not tested it on longer runs. Also it only works with choke on (valve up). All this for 17quid incl air filter and other bits!
Is/was that the standard exhaust on it?
Not standard, bought on ebay and stuffed with plenty of noise quietening material as was even noisier without!

Interesting, but it seems overly complex, relying on expensive hydraulics. There are other simple designs with fewer parts, balanced and easy to operate, I think they are popular in the Netherlands.

Yes, just passed 4000km and no issues so far, though I'm a weekend rider mainly and try to keep it dry.

Hi. My Dad is really struggling to make head nor tail of the Electrex instructions. I don't suppose you have any pointers or more in-depth instructions? His is a 1955 D1 with a battery. Regards
Are these the instructions you have: www.dropbox.com/s/ocs7tfpb9w66rkp/STK-1257.pdf?dl=0 From what i remember it was not too complicated to fit, but I did have to modify the stator plate to be able to turn it enough to get the timing right.
@@jagsnyorks Hi Jules, thanks for the reply! Yes, that's the exact same instructions. He rigged it all up - a kind of 'dry run' if you will, just so he could work out how best to mount things and all the electrics worked a charm. After mounting stuff up properly he can't get a sausage out of it. Totally dead. Having trouble getting hold of the company due to the current situation. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Much appreciated 👍🏍️
